“Black robes” they were named,

Sent home to safety, yet,

Returned to the Land of certain death,

 To the souls they could not forget.

Black robes with water pouring,

Baptizing all the nations,

“Alter Christi”, he is; “another Christ”

Called to bring souls to Salvation.

 

Black robes in quiet patience,

Many hours he has spent,

Hearing sinner’s deeds & questions,

Forgiving the sins of the penitent.

 

Black robes of men, anointed

The Body of Christ, he holds,

Each day when Mass, he offers,

 

And Calvary, again, unfolds.

 

Black robes up on the pulpit,

Teaching, preaching what is right,

To the souls of whose care he was given,

To bring from darkness into light.

Black robes, he is called Father,

Feeling like the most sinful one,

If only he saw, how great the Love,

God has for his repentant Sons.
