Who Makes Land Rover? Where is Land Rover From?
Land Rover was originally a sub-brand of British marque Rover Company, with its first vehicle being the Series I Land Rover Defender, which launched in 1948. The Series I was one of the first mass-produced four-wheel drive vehicles and was likely inspired by the original Willys Jeep.

In late 1967, the British government pressured Rover Company to join forces with the Leyland Motor Corporation, otherwise known as British Leyland. In 1978, BL rolled Land Rover into an entirely separate company. It then became part of the Rover Group after BL went under 1988, with Rover Group later being sold to BMW in 1994. In 2000, BMW sold Land Rover to Ford, which then sold the SUV brand to Indian firm Tata Motors in 2008. Tata has owned the company ever since, operating it under the Jaguar-Land Rover banner. Although it’s owned by an Indian company, Land Rover’s global headquarters are located in Coventry, United Kingdom.
