Volkswagen Teases New Model Via Cryptic Social Media Posts
Is Volkswagen bringing back the Rabbit?
Auto Show season’s starting to enter full swing. Last week was the Chengdu Auto Show, next week comes IAA in Germany, and the week after the Detroit Auto Show will be in full swing. Although auto shows might not be as relevant in years past, some manufacturers are queuing up new models and concepts to show off. It looks like Volkswagen might be priming to show off a concept in Germany, well, at least we think so based on a series of cryptic announcements.
It all started on August 27, when Volkswagen posted a video of a rabbit on social media. “The internet is full of (cats). Everyone likes cats. We like them, too. But today, we want to honor the rabbit – for good reason. Stay tuned!” Then, the next day, VW followed up with a similar video of a garage, and then a video of a jar of honey the day after that.
The teasers seem a little on the nose, but we think that it’s pretty obvious that VW’s planning something new, possibly a small hatchback, likely an EV. Via the garage video, a connection could be made that alongside a hatchback Volkswagen could be planning a small pickup – similar to the old Rabbit and Caddy from the early 1980s. Whatever the case, the garage video’s caption said that Volkswagen has been working on a very special vehicle; whether that means it's a pickup truck or a hatchback, remains to be seen. As for the honey? Well, we will just have to wait and see how it applies. It is VW’s self-made honey, sold alongside its currywurst sausage both of which are only available in Europe.
Volkswagen’s latest model will debut on September 3, and go on display at this year’s IAA show in Germany.
