Reliability and safety are two of the most important factors shoppers take into account when looking for a new vehicle.

Most folks just want a safe, reliable car to take them to and from work that won’t be too expensive to fix when things inevitably go wrong. It can be hard to determine which cars will prove to be the longest lasting and least costly to maintain, but luckily car buying and research website iSeeCars.com is here to help.

iSeeCars.com recently analyzed the ownership data from over 750,000 cars from the 1981-2003 model years to try and determine which vehicles owners keep the longest. Many cars from 1981-2003 aren’t even on the roads anymore, so this data is a little bit distanced from today’s automotive landscape, but it’s interesting to see which automakers performed the best during those years.

View the list below and remember, while the photos are of modern-day models, this information is relevant to 2003 model year vehicles and older.
