Alfa Romeo is banking a lot on the Tonale’s success, and it seems like they’re setting up the Tonale for a potential home run. Pricing has been announced for the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale; for $42,995, not including the $1,595 destination fee.

Unlike its sister car, the Dodge Hornet, the Alfa Romeo Tonale is now PHEV only. Meaning, all Tonales will come with a 1.3L turbo engine powering the front wheels, a 15.5-kilowatt-hour battery, and all-wheel-drive, via a 90 kW (120 horsepower) electric motor mounted on the rear axle. Together, the system is good for 30 miles of all-electric range, and a combined output of 285 horsepower, and 350 ft/lbs of torque. The formerly announced 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, non-hybrid setup is no longer available on the Tonale.

The Tonale will come in three trims; Sprint ($42,995), Ti ($44.995), and Veloce ($47,495). All come with the same PHEV powertrain, and according to Stellantis, will qualify for the $7,500 tax credit if leased. Alfa says the Tonale will have exciting driving dynamics, “ assisted by a rapid-response Frequency Damping Suspension (FDS) system,” meant to actively control and alter ride and handling.

Pricewise, it appears the Alfa Romeo Tonale starts above competitors like the BMW X1 or Mercedes-Benz GLA 250, but unlike those cars, the Tonale comes standard in PHEV form. The X1 and GLA currently don’t have PHEV options, and both cars have less power than the Tonale.

Pre-orders are open for the Ti and Veloce trims of the Alfa Romeo Tonale, with the base Sprint trim coming online later in Q1 2023.
