The New Land Rover Defender Is Coming Very, Very Soon
Land Rover has sent an official teaser for the upcoming 2020 Defender.
The new Land Rover Defender is one of the most highly anticipated vehicles of the New Year. The SUV will be offered in both four-door long wheelbase and two-door short wheelbase form and, as you can tell from the teaser image, will feature squarish styling heavily inspired by the outgoing model. The teaser also reveals the SUV will be offered with a tailgate mounted spare tire.

Land Rover intends to debut the next-generation Defender next year, with the first customer deliveries expected to commence in 2020. Four-cylinder diesel and four-cylinder gasoline engines should both be on offer, depending on the market in question. An electrified version should arrive eventually as well, but may not be offered from launch.
Like all Land Rovers, the new Defender will aim for segment-leading off-road capability. Expect plenty of ground clearance and an evolved version of the manufacturer’s Terrain Response traction management system. Land Rover will also put the vehicle through a stringent pre-production testing regime that will expose it to all sorts of brutal conditions, from frigid Sweden to the scorching American desert.
Look for the new Land Rover Defender to make its debut in 2019, likely at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, before sales begin the following year.
