Lucid expands outward with a seven-seat electric SUV.

Now, the Lucid Air doesn’t have to feel so lonely in the showroom. Teased for weeks, the brand officially took the wraps off its luxury EV SUV flagship, with a series of dark images, shrouded in mystery.

Like the Air sedan, the Lucid Gravity shares a lot of the same styling language. It has the same “California Post-Luxury” inspiration, reminiscent of mid-1960s mid-century modern designs. The front and rear fascias are very similar to the Air sedan. Yet, the Gravity’s body is larger and taller, designed to accommodate five, six, and seven passengers.

Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson said “Gravity builds upon everything we have achieved thus far, driving further advancements of our in-house technology to create a luxury performance SUV like none other,” which if true, should translate to an efficient, fast, and sharp to drive EV if it follows in the footsteps of the Lucid Air sedan. “It is both a supercar in disguise and an SUV with flexible passenger and cargo space that seems impossibly big relative to the exterior size of the vehicle,” said Senior Vice President of Design, Derek Jenkins.

Details of the interior haven’t been fully released, except the full-length, glass roof dubbed the “next generation glass canopy.” It appears to take the Lucid Air’s huge glass roof to the next level; skinny pillars paired with an impressive glass area results in an extremely airy cabin with lots of natural light. Also, it looks like the six-passenger Lucid Gravity option will include two adjustable captain’s chairs in the second row.

No full interior or dashboard pics were released from Lucid, nor were any performance, range, or pricing specifications. Lucid says it is still finalizing design and specifications, as it ramps up its Arizona plant to produce the new vehicle. The brand says that details will become more available before reservations officially open in early 2023, with a goal of getting the SUV on roads by 2024.
