Audi’s sleek EV coupe, also doubles as a pickup truck.

The sphere concepts from Audi have each taken on a different theme. We’ve got the Skysphere roadster from 2021, the Grandsphere sedan, and Urbansphere city hatchback, but Activesphere takes things in a new direction. Sure, it’s a coupe, with sleek lines, but Audis added some key design elements to go along with the so-called active lifestyle it seeks to court.

The Audi Activesphere has increased ground clearance with chunky 22-inch wheels, no doubt intended to make off-road driving easy. But, at the back, its roofline can slide away to reveal a truck bed with space for two e-bikes. “The Activesphere is unique. It is a new type of crossover that cleverly combines the elegance of an Audi Sportback, the practicality of an SUV and true offroad capabilities,” said Audi Design Studio Manager Gael Buzyn.

Underneath, the Activesphere uses the newly-developed PPE EV platform, jointly developed with Porsche. It has an 800V architecture and would have a driving range of over 600km (372 miles). Par for the course of many EV concept vehicles, it has autonomous driving features that would allow the passengers to be driven around, without any input needed from the driver. There’s also a host of virtual reality and augmented reality features that could be toyed with by the driver and passengers wearing special headsets.

Although it’s unlikely that the suite of virtual reality features will come to fruition, the Activesphere is likely a preview of a new future EV Audi coupe or crossover. Audi will soon use the new PPE platform for new EVs instead of the current MEB platform or the revised MSB platform that underpins the Porsche Taycan and Audi E-Tron.
