Mercedes-Benz has freshened up its biggest SUVs for 2024.

Large, and in charge, the Mercedes-Benz GLS has sat at the top of the Mercedes-Benz range for a while, since its introduction in 2019. For 2024, the whole model lineup, including the ultra-swanky Maybach, has been updated.

At first glance, the exterior changes between old and new can be hard to spot. But, Mercedes-Benz has given the GLS a new front fascia that includes a bigger grille with vertical slats, like what we’ve seen on the updated GLA and GLB. The lower valance is also retouched, as is the rear bumper, both in the spirit of what we’ve seen on other new Mercedes-Benz products. The taillights are new, and Mercedes has added two new colors: Alpine Grey and Twilight Blue.

The interior’s look may have stayed the same, but Mercedes-Benz has added more tech to the GLS. The steering wheel now has touch capacitive buttons, and the infotainment now has the latest version of MBUX. Oh, and the MANUFAKTUR Flowing Lines interior trim is now available on the non-Maybach trims of the GLS. The Maybach GLS gets much of the same changes as the standard GLS, albeit with a more ornate grille and more chrome brightwork.

The performance options stay about the same as before. On the GLS 63, the same 6.3-liter twin-turbo V8 mild hybrid sits under the hood. This powertrain will be the only option for the Maybach GLS 600, although it produces a mere 550 horsepower compared to the GLS 63’s 603 horsepower.


Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but the Alabama-built GLS is expected to reach US and Canadian showrooms by fall 2023.
