The 2023 Genesis GV60 Earns IIHS Highest Honors; Receives Top Safety Pick Plus

The Genesis GV60 is a really safe vehicle, according to the IIHS.

The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) named the Genesis GV60 EV crossover a “Top Safety Pick Plus,” because of its stellar performance in crash testing. Most notably, this is the fourth year in a row that the entire Genesis lineup has earned top honors from IIHS. “Our customers are at the center of everything we do at Genesis, and their safety is of paramount importance,” said Genesis’s CEO Claudia Martinez. Martinez went on to say that every Genesis vehicle is designed with safety at the forefront.

The GV60 earned “Good” in every category, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. Because the GV60’s all-around crash performance was strong, that helped it earn the Top Safety Pick Plus. If the GV60 scored under a good in any of those tests, it would have not qualified for the award.

The IIHS’s crash testing is a bit different from NCAP or NHTSA’s, often incorporating things like headlight quality, and ease of use for child seat LATCH mechanisms. It also evaluates how well Genesis’s collision avoidance and driver work. The GV60’s standard collision avoidance systems earned a rating of superior, the highest rating that the IIHS gives out. Those scores together with the crash testing results, made the GV60 earn top honors.

The GV60 joins its platform-mate, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in earning the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus designation.
