Rivian Plans To Release New Model By 2025
In a recent letter to shareholders, Rivian mentioned its plans to introduce another vehicle, using a new platform: the R2.
The letter isn’t exactly clear on what form the R2 will take, but Rivian says that the R2 is important to “grow and expand [its] product portfolio globally across different price points and form factors.” An R2 platform-based Rivian could be a smaller, cheaper electric SUV or Pickup, or maybe even something along the lines of an EV smaller hatchback or crossover.
Whatever the Rivian R2 will be, Rivian cites that its ability to ramp production up at its Normal, IL plant, and implement R2 production are the biggest keys to the brand’s success. The demand for the R1T, R1S, and EDV delivery vans has been overwhelming, but the company has publicly struggled with getting the vehicles produced and shipped. Most of the letter focuses on Rivian assuring its shareholders of its ability and desire to increase production numbers.
We don’t know what the Rivian R2 will be, but Rivian wants to launch the vehicle by 2025.
