Rivian Gives More Details For Its Dual-Motor Equipped R1T And R1S
Rivian drops more details on its dual-motor drivetrain.
Since its introduction, Rivian has hinted at the lower priced options coming, but thus far, they’ve kind of remained a mere theoretical. In fact, Rivian recently came under fire removing its base Explore trim, making reservation holders upgrade to a more expensive vehicle. But, the brand is moving forward with simpler, cheaper variants of the R1T and R1S, it just has released some more details about its new dual-motor setup.
Currently, all of the Rivian R1T and R1S vehicles in the customer’s hands are quad-motor setups. This beast allows for impressive traction management, and it outputs a whopping 835 horsepower, and 908 ft/lbs of torque. This new dual-motor setup will be offered in two forms, standard, and enhanced. Neither setup is any slouch, though – the Standard will come with 600 horsepower and the Enhanced 700 horsepower. Even the standard range will be able to propel the truck to 60 MPH in as little as 4.5 seconds. Rivian promises a second shaved off that time for the Enhanced version.

The electric drive unit for the dual-motor setup is made and designed in-house, by Rivian itself, compared with the Bosch-developed quad-motor setups in current trucks. The dual-motor setup is meant to be cheaper to build, and in turn, make the R1T and R1S cheaper to buy. Pricing for the Enhanced motor equipped trucks hasn’t been released, but a standard battery pack, Standard dual-motor R1T can had for as little as $74,800, including the destination fee.
The dual-motor equipped cars are expected to make their way to reservation holders starting in 2023.
