QX55 Trademarked: Possible New Infiniti On the Way

This week in interesting trademark news is brought to us by Nissan, as the automaker has recently filed trademarks for the QX55 in the US and Canada.

Both the US Patent and Trademark Office and Canadian Trademark Database are reporting the new trademark by Nissan. As the parent company of Infiniti, there is a reason to believe that a new QX crossover is on the way using this name. It’s certainly possible the QX55 will be used on a variation of the QX50.

The QX50 is the automaker’s compact crossover, lining up in size against the Mercedes GLC and BMW X3. It’s a gorgeous car with a class-above interior. Usually, only the flagship product in a luxury brand’s lineup gets all the goodies, but the QX50 not only features an amazing interior but some impressive technology as well. Under the hood is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with variable compression technology. This allows the car to boast an impressive fuel consumption rating of 31 MPG on the highway, but also feature a punchy engine with 268-hp.

But a QX55 could put something even more advanced under the hood. The brands 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 would look food under the hood of this crossover, with 300 to 400 horsepower to compete with the German brand’s sporty X3 M or GLC 63 AMG. This is all speculation of course, but another idea would be a long-wheelbase model of the QX50, as the last generation QX50 was offered in this format in a few different markets before becoming the standard size.

Since the QX50 has gained a number of fans around the office, we’re all eager to see what Infiniti has in store for us with a new QX55 model.
