Paul McCartney's Old Lamborghini is Heading to Auction

Paul McCartney’s 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 is one in a number of celebrity cars that will be sold at Bonham’s upcoming Goodwood Members’ Meeting auction.

The Lamborghini was purchased by McCartney at the height of The Beatles’ success and was owned by him while they recorded Yellow Submarine and worked on the animated film of the same name. The car also appeared in ‘Anthology of The Beatles‘ – a 1996 BBC TV series focused around the band. This example, which features a 320 hp 4.0-liter V12, was purchased new by McCartney in February of 1968. It has had just four owners from new, with the most recent acquiring it back in 2011. It has been stored in a climate-controlled environment at Lamborghini Hong Kong for much of that time.

Joining the McCartney Lamborghini at Bonhams’ auction is a 1991 Lamborghini Diablo, which was once owned by Rod Stewart. The recording artist bought the mid-engine V12 exotic as a Christmas gift for himself in December 1991, shortly after releasing his wildly successful album Vagabond Heart, which went Platinum in 6 different countries. It has had just four owners since new, and with just 27,000 miles on the odometer, has been used sparingly over its 27 years on the road.

Completing the trio of celebrity-owned metal is a 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GT Spider formerly owned by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason. The musician purchased the car new in 1973, but it has been owned by five other owners since. For 20 years from 1983 to 2003 the car belonged to one Vincent Squillaci, who at the time worked in R&D for Ferrari in its Formula 1 program. Its most recent owner spent upwards of $30,000 refurbishing it and acquired Ferrari Classiche certification for the vehicle in 2013.

All three vehicles will go under the gavel at Bonhams’ Goodwood Members’ Meeting sale on March 18th.
