A longer VW ID. Buzz is coming soon. This one’s meant for North America.

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a bright spot in what seems to be a somewhat dreary EV marketplace. The culmination of at least three concepts, and two decades of broken promises of a new Microbus, the retro-styled EV van is finally here. However, Volkswagen told us from the start, that the U.S. version would be longer than the one currently making its rounds in Europe.

The debut of that longer wheelbase model now has an official date – June 2. This day isn’t random, either; Volkswagen is calling it “International Volkswagen Bus Day,” and it will be a showcase of no doubt pristine examples of the historic VW Bus. The debut will take place in Huntington Beach, California.

The European versions of the shorter ID. Buzz is strictly five-seaters, which is kind of a non-starter for any van-shaped thing in North America. By comparison, the North American ID. Buzz will come standard with three rows of seats, for a total of seven seats. Power will likely end up being the same as its mechanically related platform-mate, the Volkswagen ID.4. That means base models will come with a single-motor at the rear producing 201 horsepower, or a twin-motor AWD setup good for 295 horsepower. VW has said that the U.S. ID.Buzz will come with a larger battery than the European model.

The U.S.-bound ID. Buzz will be streamed on June 2, starting at 11 AM EST. It will debut one year after its debut, so expect it to show up on lots by summer 2024.
