Nissan Reportedly Gifts Ariya Reservation Holders Meta Quest 2 VR Headset
Some Nissan Ariya reservation holders have reportedly been offered an expensive piece of tech.
A thread on the Nissan Ariya forum posted initially by user Jayway, outlined an email allegedly sent by Nissan to Ariya reservation holders. To “demonstrate their appreciation,” Nissan is gifting them a Meta Quest 2 virtual reality headset. On the headset, the Nissan Ariya VR experience software is pre-installed. What exactly the Nissan Ariya VR experience software is, hasn’t been revealed.
For those not familiar with the VR gaming world, the Meta Quest 2 is a virtual reality, immersive experience headset produced by Meta, formerly known as Facebook. Not only used for games, but the Meta Quest 2 can also be used for immersive experiences, like, whatever Nissan has planned for the Ariya’s delivery. It’s not a cheap thing either, the Meta Quest 2 currently starts at $399.
Some of the reservation holders in the thread think this is Nissan’s way of incentivizing reservation holders to stay in line. Nissan has been open about delays that have made the Ariya’s production timeline slower than initially planned. Right now, there’s no new news or rumblings of another delay, but the curious timing of the gift could cause some to think that maybe things could go off track again. “Nissan really doesn’t want us to get out of line,” said one forum member.
Regardless, Ariya reservation holders who are recipients of the email have until November 17 to confirm their address so Nissan knows where to send their new VR headset.
