The New Stratos is Finally Being Built, And It Will Have 550 HP
Way back in 2010, entrepreneur and car enthusiast Michael Stoschek tried to revive the storied Lancia Stratos name with a coachbuilt supercar based on the Ferrari F430 Scuderia.
The resulting concept, built by Italian firm Manifattura Automobili Torino, was just about perfect. A modern rendition of the original design, it mimicked the Stratos’ doorstop-like shape and paired it with a lightweight body and modern-day performance. Stoschek received 50 orders for the car, which was the full planned production run, but Ferrari blocked the sale as they were based on its own vehicles. That killed off Stoschek’s plans, but he didn’t give up.

Stoschek has now announced a ‘new’ new Stratos is in the works, which will be shown at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show next month. The car will again be manufactured by Manifattura Automobili Torino, which also built the Apollo Intensa Emozione, and will be homologated to be sold all over the world. The car will still be based on the F430, and will feature a 550 hp version of that car’s 4.3-liter V8 engine. It will also spawn a hardcore track-only version and an off-ready ready ‘Safari’ model.
“I am delighted that other passionate car enthusiasts can experience how the successor of the most fascinating rally cars from the Seventies still sets the bar for design and performance today,’ Stoschek told TG.
Just 25 examples of the new Stratos will be built. We’ll have more details on the coachbuilt supercar following its debut in Geneva in March.
