New Maserati GranTurismo Not Expected to Arrive Until 2020
The replacement for the elderly Maserati GranTurismo won’t arrive until 2020, according to a new report.
The current GranTurismo, which was recently updated with a new front fascia and some other minor revisions, has been with us in one form or another since 2007. A previous report indicated the car will die off at the end of this year, but we’re going to take those claims with a grain of salt as we can’t envision Maserati spending money to update the car only to kill it off six months later.
Maserati was supposed to get the all-new GranTurismo to market for 2018, but the project has since been pushed back. The reason for the delay relates to the new GranTurismo’s platform. Maserati is currently working on an all-new architecture that will also underpin other models in its range and will support the use of hybrid powertrains. It seems almost inevitable this will be the same platform that will be used in the production version of the two-seat Alfieri as well.

The next-generation GranTurismo will apparently be previewed with a concept that is debut sometime early next year. Individuals curious about the styling of the design study should look to the most recent concept from the Modena-based brand – the aforementioned Alfieri. It’s also possible Maserati’s future design direction has taken a turn since the Alfieri’s debut, however, seeing as it was first shown over three years ago at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
