After just seven years of production, McLaren Automotive has reached the 15,000 milestone.

The milestone comes less than 18 months after McLaren manufactured its 10,000th unit and having achieved record sales last year with 3,340 cars sold. The British automaker added a second shift to production in 2016 to meet rising global demand, doubling production from around 10 units per day to 20.

According to McLaren, around two-thirds of sales last year came from the Sports Series, (570S, 570GT, 540C) and the remaining one-third from the Super Series (650S, 720S). This year, the company added the Ultimate Series with the introduction of the McLaren Senna, which will be limited to 500 units. McLaren says the first of the customers cars will be completed soon.

“Reaching 15,000 cars built is a significant milestone for McLaren Automotive and comes under 18 months after we hit 10,000 vehicles, showing how demand and production have increased,” said Mike Flewitt, CEO for McLaren Automotive. “The Sports Series has been pivotal to driving this growth, with the 570S Spider now the most popular of the range. The fact we are now able to produce 20 cars a day is of course a great testament to the hard work and dedication of every one of our workforce, who should feel justifiably proud and part of this great team effort.”

The special 15,000th car is a 570S Spider finished in Curacao Blue.
