best mazda cx 5 accessories

The Mazda CX-5 comes with an impressive list of standard features for an affordable sport utility vehicle. In addition to the standard and optional features, the automaker offers a variety of Mazda CX-5 accessories that make it a better vehicle for each individual owner, but there are some things that you can’t get from the dealership. Of course, if you buy your Mazda SUV from a private buyer, you cannot add accessories to the final bill and that is why the automaker aftermarket is such a thriving industry.

There are many items that you might want for your vehicle to make it a more convenient daily driver while also adding peace of mind. But with so many options available, we have tried to narrow things down by showcasing what we think are some of the best Mazda CX-5 accessories on the market to let you get the most out of your compact SUV.

1. Car Pet Supplies Pet Net

If you are one of the many drivers who likes to take your dog for rides, the Mazda CX-5 offers a large cargo area which gets even bigger when you fold down the second-row seats. With the whole rear area opened up, even a couple large dogs will comfortably fit in the CX-5, but if you want them to stay in a certain area, you need some sort of divider. There are many options available in a variety of styles, but we found one that is versatile enough to move around the vehicle to different spots.

The Car Pet Supplies pet net is comprised of a nylon netting encircled in an elastic cable and it has hooks that can be connected to any point in the cabin of your Mazda CX-5. The stretching design allows you to use it in different places and in different configurations, so you can keep your pups at bay in multiple vehicles with simple installation.

Pros

Easy to install, inexpensive, can be used in multiple vehicles and multiple locations within the vehicle

Cons

A very motived dog may be able to force their way over, under or around it

Promoted Product: Gold Shield 5L Mazda CX5 SUV Covers at CarCover.com

The Mazda CX-5 is a pretty sweet compact crossover SUV. Not only are these cars fun to drive, but they are also pretty nice looking, too. One way you can protect your Mazda CX-5 when you’re not driving it is to use a Gold Shield 5L Mazda CX-5 Car Cover from CarCover.com. These tough, protective car covers are made from five-layers of material, with three layers of polypropylene, a single layer of microporous film, and an additional layer of soft fleece lining to help protect the exterior finish of your Mazdat. The 5L cover has strap and buckle cinches at each end and an elastic band for a snug fit around the bottom of your CX-5. The Gold Shield 5L covers are 100% waterproof and are weather and UV-resistant to help keep the exterior looking great, and it comes with a limited lifetime warranty and a carry case, too. If you drive a Mazda CX-5 and want it looking good for years to come, you need one of these covers to protect it wherever you park it.

2. BeHave Car Phone Mount

Like many vehicles, the Mazda CX-5 has places to stash a cell phone, but there is no good spot to place your phone where you can easily use it for something like a navigation screen. Although pretty much every driver has a phone and many of them use the phones while on the go, few automakers have come up with a good way to mount the phone for easy access while driving. Fortunately, there are scores of universal phone mounts on the market for everything from the smallest flip phone to the larger tablets.

For those CX-5 owners who want their cell phone to be situated somewhere that they can clearly see the screen while driving, whether it be for navigation, music or phone calls, the BeHave car phony mount is one of our favorite Mazda CX-5 accessories. The portion that attaches to the car has adjustable clips that will attach to the HVAC vents or the trim around those vents on many different vehicles. On the front side, the adjustable arms will allow this mount to hold onto just about any cell phone. The bottom arm is open, allowing you to keep your phone plugged in while on the go.

Pros

Easy to install, adjustable front holds many different phones, allows charging access, inexpensive

Cons

Mildly obstructs heat and cooling air flow

3. Bopar Auto Cargo Area Cover

The Mazda CX-5 has a spacious cargo area that will allow you to haul all sorts of items, but the key concern with all sport utility vehicles is that the windows around the rear end allow a clear view of the cargo. If you have anything valuable back there, it could make your vehicle an easy target for thieves. Along similar lines, if you have anything back there that you simply don’t want people to see, you will want something that conceals the whole area. When buying a new CX-5, you can get it with a cargo cover, but if that factory unit was damaged, or if your Mazda SUV came without one, you are in luck.

The cargo area cover from Bopar Auto is similar to the factory-offered unit in both appears and function. The main housing mounts behind the rear seats and the shade pulls from inside that housing, being kept tight with constant spring tension. When you want more access to the area, the shade retracts back into the housing like a tape measure. The result is a secure cargo area when the cover is in use and when it is stowed, you won’t even know that it is there.

Pros

Relatively inexpensive, easy to install and use, factory fitment and function, conceals rear cargo

Cons

The soft top will not hold any weight, so you can only haul cargo that fits below the cover and you cannot pile anything on top

4. TOPGRIL Mud Flaps

When you drive your Mazda CX-5, the tires are constantly picking up debris and flinging it against the body. If you only drive on paved roads, your tires kick up small cinders, stones, liquids and other random debris. If you drive on unpaved roads, the tires will cake mud and rocks to the body on a damp day and if you live in an area that uses road salt, the chunks of that can do a world of damage to your paint. Over time, the little chips in the paint can reach bare metal and over time, that leads to rust.

Some CX-5 models come with mud flaps, but if yours did not, there are plenty of options in the aftermarket world. This set of mud flaps from TOPGRIL uses black molded plastic to conform to the body, creating a very factory-like finish. These flaps mount to the body using factory holes, so there is no drilling necessary and once installed with the included hardware, your paint will be safe from anything flying off of the surface of your tires. When it comes to protecting your vehicle from on-road debris, the TOPGRIL mud flaps are on the short list for the best Mazda CX-5 accessories we can think of.

Pros

Inexpensive, easy to install, protects the paint from stones and other debris

Cons

May collect snow and ice in the winter, can be broken by larger debris

5. Husky Floor Liners

The Mazda CX-5 comes with carpeted floor mats that make it a little easier to clean the cabin while also protecting the carpeting from damage. However, the factory floor mats really only prevent so much from making it onto the carpet. If you have very muddy shoes or if your kid spills a chocolate milkshake on the floor, the factory mats aren’t going to do much. In fact, they might just be ruined and so will the carpeting.

To keep your carpeting safe from muddy shoes, spilled drinks or other materials which won’t simply vacuum out, a quality set of floor liners is are just about the best Mazda CX-5 accessories you can buy. These Husky floor liners are designed to perfectly fit each vehicle, with elevated edges all of the way around the perimeter that keep fluids off of the carpeting. If you have a mess, you pull out the liners, rinse them, dry them and put them back in.

Pros

Perfect fit, keeps mud, spilled drinks and other fluids contained, easy to remove and clean

Cons

On the more expensive side for floor mats, cannot be used in other models

6. EKR Seat Covers

Some examples of the Mazda CX-5 came from the factory with leather seats, but cloth is standard on many models. Cloth doesn’t have the same premium look and feel as leather, but more importantly, cloth is more absorbent and harder to keep clean over time. This is especially true if you have kids or pets, as any liquids that are tracked onto the seats are likely to leave a stain.

The good news for those CX-5 owners with cloth seats is that there are many aftermarket seat cover options that look better and are easier to clean than the factory materials. For example, this set of Mazda CX-5 seat covers from EKR are finished in leatherette (artificial leather) and they are designed to fit snugly over the factory seat materials. Once in place, they look great, but they also make it easier to clean up spills or any messes that end up on the seats.

Pros

Factory fitment, premium look, easy to clean

Cons

On the pricier end for seat covers, installation may require some patience

7. McGard Wheel Locks

Every new Mazda CX-5 comes with aluminum wheels. These wheels look nicer than steel wheels with hubcaps and they weigh less, so they technically improve both performance and efficiency. The key downside to aluminum wheels in this day and age is that aluminum scrap values are high and wheels are an easy item to steal and sell to a recycler. As a result, any aluminum wheel is target for thieves and that is why you need wheel locks. Mazda sells wheel locks which can be ordered with the vehicle or after the purchase, but there are many aftermarket options to secure your wheels as well.

These locks from McCord are a great option when it comes to protecting the wheels on your Mazda CX-5. They have a completely round exterior construction, making it nearly impossible to remove without the key. The key has a specific pattern etched into it which matches the pattern on the top of each locking nut, so only the key can be used to loosen the nuts, making it nearly impossible to remove your wheels in a hurry.

The bottom line is adding a product like McGard wheel locks can save you a pile of cash and a huge headache, which is why they make our list of the best Mazda CX-5 accessories.

Pros

Inexpensive, easy to install, help to protect wheel theft

Cons

A thief with some time can remove these

History of the Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 was introduced for the North American market in late 2012 for the 2013 model year. The first generation continued on through 2014 and 2015, with a mid-cycle facelift for the 2016 representing the first big change. The second generation arrived in North America for the 2017 model year and has continued on through the 2021 model year. There is likely to be a new generation introduced for either 2022 or 2023.

CX5 Engines and Transmissions

When the Mazda CX-5 first went on sale in North America for the 2013 model year, the only engine offered was a Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter 4-cylinder which delivers 155 horsepower. That engine was offered with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. For the 2014 model year, a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine was introduced to the lineup with 184 horsepower and a standard automatic transmission.

When the second generation came to market for 2017, the standard Mazda CX-5 engine in the North American market was the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and a standard automatic transmission. Starting in 2019, the optional engine on the CX-5 is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower, which comes standard with all-wheel-drive and an automatic transmission.
