The story of how the Ford GT40 (eventually) beat Ferrari at Le Mans is getting the Hollywood treatment and Variety reports that Matt Damon and Christian Bale count among its stars.

The film is reportedly focused on the effort of Shelby and test driver Ken Miles, who were handed the project after Ford’s first choice, John Wyer, failed to deliver a winning car.

Damon will play the Texas chicken farmer, while Bale will play Miles. Jon Bernthal (“The Punisher,” “The Walking Dead”), meanwhile has reportedly been approached to play Lee Iacocca and Caitriona Balfe of “Outlander” will play Mile’s wife, Mollie.

And the good news doesn’t stop at the cast, either. With James Mangold (“Logan”) set to direct and a screenplay by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth—the unlikely named dynamic duo who wrote “Edge of Tomorrow”’s screenplay—set to write the screenplay, the movie looks really promising. Just don’t expect it to have a great name.

Variety also reports that the film has been dated for June 28, 2019 by Fox.

What an insult to Carrol Shelby's remembrance. Having some limp-wristed, anti-gun liberal attempting to portray him is truly a disservice to his countless contributions to the American automotive industry. Doesn't Matt realize that Carrol was a strong advocate for the 2nd Amendment? Yet another Hollywood hypocrite?I Say it's not so.
