Lotus is recalling 546 of its sports cars in North America because of a problem with an oil cooler line that could become detached.

Lotus has become the first Formula One team to unveil its race car for the 2013 season, the E21.

Bob Lutz of former General Motors vice chairman fame enjoyed a short stint on the advisory board of Lotus, and one of the perks of signing on to the British automaker’s board was to get an Evora of his own to drive.

Lotus Group’s parent company DRB Hicom is predicting some lofty goals for the small sports car company, confident that by 2015 the brand will be selling between  4,000 and 5,000 units per year. 

Lotus Racing just announced a series of first public debuts during the 2013 Autosport International Show in Birmingham, U.K.

Lotus is releasing a new package for its Evora called the ‘Sports Racer,’ which brings the sports car new styling inside and out, and new tech features. 

In what is turning into a very bitter divorce between Lotus and ex-CEO Dany Bahar, the British automaker is firing back with a lawsuit of its own, claiming that Bahar spent company money on his extravagant personal lifestyle.

Italian seat manufacturer, Composite Worx, has decided to build an extreme project car to show off its product line. The Lotus Exige-based Extrema is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 LS9 engine found in the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

After rumors of the Esprit’s death were debunked, Lotus has charged ahead and according to inside sources, the brand’s newest sports car is all but ready to be built.

Lotus production will remain in Britain according to parent company DRB-HICOM’s Chief Operating Officer  Aslam Farikullah.

Lotus just announced a price increase for its 2013 Evora and Evora S models, with the Evora starting at $66,800 and the Evora S priced from $77,100.

A new members only club for Lotus owners will be launched in December called ‘Lotus Official Club Italia’ and will feature a calendar of events and activities that celebrate the British automaker.

Lotus is recalling 80 of its 2011 supercharged Evora sport cars because an oil hose could rupture, increasing the risk of a fire.

Contrary to what we reported on AutoGuide earlier today, Lotus has informed us that the cancellation of Esprit production is simply a rumor. 

After corporate takeovers and a sacked CEO, Lotus is on the rocks and is reportedly canceling production of the Esprit.

It’s been a tumultuous few months for British automaker Lotus. Ex-CEO Dany Bahar officially got the axe, and then swift changes were made by new owners DRB-Hicom.

It’s the time of year when automakers go on a wonderful vacation to Paris and show off the latest and greatest vehicles. The Paris Motor show is here, and there are quite a few vehicles that are slated to be revealed this year.

Far from its conclusion, the saga between Lotus and former CEO Dany Bahar will soldier on now that the ex exec is suing for 6.7 million pounds ($10.6 million).

Clearly,  Lotus wants to rid itself of anything that has to do with former-CEO Dany Bahar. The British automaker is now selling Bahar’s custom 2002 Esprit V8.

Last year at the Frankfurt Auto Show, Lotus showed off its Exige S model featuring a supercharged V6 powerplant with 345-hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. But it’s a new year, which means the British automaker has something else to show off.

With Dany Bahar ousted as CEO of Lotus, the British automaker has already announced to scale back the ambitious plans of its former CEO, while looking at a more reasonable product development plan.

Following Lotus CEO Dany Bahar’s termination, the brand is abandoning the plan he championed to bring six new sports cars to market using the company’s engines and transmissions. 

For the 2013 model year, Lotus will be adding a six-speed automatic option to its Evora S model when it becomes available starting this October.

The Rolex Series’ GX class won’t kick off until 2013, but that won’t stop Lotus from entering its Evora GX in this year’s Grand-Am Rolex Series as a GT entry.

Europe’s largest automaker is considering of putting in a new bid for Malaysia’s Proton in order to tap into the growing southeast Asian market. Lotus has adapted it’s Evora GT4 endurance racer for homologation in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and has confirmed at least one team will compete using the car.

Ayrton Senna is one of the most recognized names in the F1 world, and it was 18 years ago today, on May 1, 1994,  that he passed away after a crash at the San Marino Grand Prix. To celebrate the man, German customizing company Cam Shaft has released a special one-off Senna styled V8 Lotus Espirit. 

The Infiniti Emerg-E was unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show as Infiniti’s first mid-engine sports car, but not previously disclosed was that the base of concept was actually the Lotus Evora 414E Concept. 

Lotus‘ Malaysian owner DRB-Hicom is seking a Chinese buyer for the brand as recently as last night, flying in the face of information included in the automaker’s much-publicized “ rant” press release from April 12.

Throwing a curve ball right down the media’s throat, Lotus issued a press release today that aimed to disarm and diffuse the flurry of speculation and jokes.

It did so by writing in completely unacademic, and some might argue, unprofessional style. Above the text, a borrowed copy of Sniff Petrol’s satirical photo (seen above) that portrays CEO Dany Bahar as “Baghdad Bob,” Iraq’s ex-information minister notorious for insisting things were fine.

Earlier warning signs were brought to attention this year when Lotus’ Malaysian parent company Proton sold a controlling stake to another Malaysian conglomerate, DRB-Hicom. As per Malaysian law, Lotus had to halt all business operations and freeze its financial accounts during the 60-day transition period.

Despite terminating its title sponsorship deal with Group Lotus, Lotus is committed to keeping its name in Formula 1 for the imminent feature. Confused? You should be.

Such is the mix of fortunes in motorsports. A long and illustrious name in Formula 1, the Lotus F1 team withdrew from the series in 1994 and only returned in 2010. However, while Syed Zainal Abidin Tahir, managing director of Lotus parent company Proton, and Lotus CEO Dany Bahar are both appointed team board members, ownership of the F1 team in fact belongs to Luxembourg-based private equity firm Genii Capital. Now, between Lotus and Genii Capital, the future of the team is up for grabs.

In the realm of higher end automobiles, the term bespoke is often seen as a logical extension of the brand; the ability to make an already exclusive vehicle into a one-of-a-kind, made to order machine.

It’s hard out there for a sports car manufacturer, especially if it is owned by a larger company.

Truth be told, the majority of us are anxiously awaiting the release of the next generation of Lotus vehicles. But until the British automaker releases the new range, we’ll have to settle for the new Exige S Roadster. Or rather we won’t, since it won’t even be making its way to American shores.

The signing of 2007 F1 champion Kimi Raikkonen to Lotus Renault GP for the 2012 season is generating quite a stir in Grand Prix circles and so far in testing, the team’s new car, the E20 has shown a lot of promise.

Lotus Racing has formally announced its motorsports program for the 2012 season, where we’ll see the highly anticipated Exige R-GT make its race debut in the FIA European Rally Championship. In addition, the British automaker will enter this year’s European Le Mans Series in an Evora GTE and will also be supporting drivers in the CIK-FIA Under-18 Kart World Championship.

Lotus has announced it will unveil a “special edition of a special edition” Evora at the upcoming 2012 Geneva Auto Show. Specific details haven’t yet been released, but it’s believed the car will be a Team Lotus F1 version of the Evora GTE.
