Find everything you need to know about the Lexus LC here, along with expert reviews, specs, photos, videos and more.

The Lexus LC is one of the most striking cars on sale today. With concept-car-like styling, the LC commands attention wherever it goes. Available as both a coupe or a convertible, we’re not sure which is the better looking option.

The rear-wheel drive LC coupe can be had with a fantastic sounding naturally aspirated V8 engine or a V6 hybrid drivetrain. The convertible is only offered with the V8 engine, which is probably for the best, to fully soak in that 5.0-liter growl.

2024 Lexus LC 500 Convertible Review

Lexus called our bluff with the 2024 Lexus LC 500 Convertible.

You see, we’ve loved the big Lexus two-door since it debuted. It’s pretty, impeccably built, satisfying to drive and, with the V8 underhood, one of the very best-sounding modern cars you can buy.

But the infotainment sucked. It sucked so much, that we considered it the only blemish on the record of an otherwise perfect car. So Lexus dropped in its new multimedia system for 2024. Thus, the perfect car, right?

3 Reasons the Lexus LC is a Modern Classic

Or, why we’re still searching the couch for some extra coin.

There are some cars that are basically auto journo catnip. Cars that are so good we struggle to find problems with them.

The Lexus LC is one such car.

Since the dramatic coupe rolled off auto show plinths and into dealerships six years ago, it has won praise from all critical corners—AutoGuide included. See exhibits A, B, C, D—you get the idea. For 2024, it got even better, changing out one of the few pain points of the old car: its infotainment.

Jaguar F-Type Convertible vs Lexus LC Convertible: Beauty and the Beast

It happens at a suburban intersection.

There’s managing editor Mike Schlee ahead, soaking in the rays in the Jaguar F-Type convertible. I’m watching it all unfold from the interior of the Lexus LC droptop behind. A high-schooler is crossing the street, and I’m happy to tell you he’s got good manners.

“That’s a very nice car, sir,” he says to Mike. So polite. Less polite is that, in his focus on that low British two-seater, he’s not aware of the collision course he’s set himself on with a woman coming the other way. She’s not aware either, because she’s not-so-discreetly got her phone out to snap a photo or two of these drop-dead-gorgeous drop-tops.

They collide. Both utter that most Canadian of words—and then grab another glance of the cars.

2021 Lexus LC 500 Coupe Review: Exquisite Express

Thank you Lexus for sticking to the naturally aspirated V8.

In the time of horsepower wars, making things go really fast around the Nurburgring and GT track specials, one automaker stands apart from the crowd. While automakers like BMW and Mercedes are churning out GT cars with smaller engines and bigger turbos Lexus adamantly sticks to a large capacity naturally aspirated V8.

The Lexus LC 500 is a unique car. While everyone else is busy appeasing the god of speed, the LC looks to offer the best driving experience imaginable. Yes, it is far from a new car and some of its aspects are, let’s just say less than desirable. But it still looks like it just drove off a motor show floor and like nothing else on the road or even in Lexus’ own lineup. Another aspect that sets it apart is that it’s not about scalpel-like handling or hot laps around a racetrack. It’s about getting from A to B via the longest route possible.

2021 Lexus LC Convertible Review: A Future Classic

lexus lc review specs pricing features videos and more

I’m not embarrassed to admit how long it takes me to drop the top when I pick up the 2021 Lexus LC convertible.

Some of that is sheer distraction: it’s impossible to get into Lexus‘ big convertible and not spend a few minutes marvelling at the plush surroundings. It’s only once I start poking and prodding any and all surfaces that I find what I’m looking for. Hidden underneath what I believe to be a wrist support for the Lexus trackpad are two switches: one to raise and lower the lid, and one to do the same to the B-pillar and quarter-windows.

It’s a rare spot of subtlety from the LC. This bright red droptop doesn’t just draw attention: it demands it, craning necks toward it with the gravitational pull of a beautiful neutron star. And like that heavenly body, the LC’s appeal feels built to last. An opulent grand tourer with stunning looks and one of the Last Great Naturally-Aspirated V8s, the LC is a future classic for those lucky enough to swing its six-figure asking price.
