Kia EV9 Teaser; Full Reveal Coming In Mid March
Kia teases more details of its EV flagship.
We’ve seen spy photos, and a concept mock-up of the vehicle, but Kia’s just dropped a handful of teaser shots and a video of its forthcoming EV9 crossover. The Kia EV9 will be a seven-seater, meant to do battle against the very small number of big EVs that can tangibly seat seven seats. Currently, only the very expensive Tesla Model X, and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV are some of the few EVs that can seat seven.
We can’t see much, but what we can see seems to follow what we’ve seen in official spy shots and the concept. The EV9 is still very boxy, with no coupe-like roofline like the Tesla Model Y or Model X. Yet, the shape feels familiar; in profile, the EV9 teaser looks somewhat similar to the Kia Telluride. The surfacing appears to be sleek and clean, Kia says the EV9 has a “unique blend of sleek and sculptural design and confident and assertive geometry.”
The EV9’s front and rear taillights are also very visible, too. The rear lights are almost Volvo-ish, stretching from roof to bumper while making a small detour on the tailgate. In front, the running lights are arranged in a pixel-like pattern that has a clever animation when they illuminate.
Underneath, the Kia EV9 will ride on the same E-GMP platform that the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60 use. Kia says the exterior and interior designs will officially be unveiled in mid-March, with technical specifications coming in late March.
