Hyundai’s latest member of the brand’s Ioniq family is a sedan. While most manufacturers are introducing nothing but all-electric SUVs, the Ioniq 6 features traditional sedan bodywork. Like the Ioniq 5, power choices come for a single rear-mounted motor or a pair of motors powering all four wheels.

The Ioniq 6 is a bit tight in rear seat quarters, but otherwise a great alternative in a sea of EV SUVs.

The Ioniq 6 is Hyundai’s first all-electric sedan, and it’s a good one. Having driven it on several occasions, we’ve always come away impressed. There are plenty of good reasons to buy the all-electric sedan. But like any car, it’s not perfect and there are a few points that might keep buyers away.

Good news, actual car fans. Hyundai hasn’t forgotten about you in its march towards an electric future, as evidenced by this, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6.

The fourth production model to use the shared E-GMP platform is the first that isn’t an SUV. It goes in a dramatically different direction from the much-loved Ioniq 5, with a focus on long range thanks to a slippery shape and lower weight.

Hyundai invited us to pretty British Columbia to spend the day driving the Ioniq 6 across all manner of roads—and, as it turned out, all manner of seasons, too. What we found was fascinating new member of the family that distinguishes itself, not just from its existing sibling, but also from the dominant Tesla Model 3.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is priced similarly to its sister model.

Sleek and streamlined, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is the second EV in Hyundai’s lineup built on the brand’s purpose-built E-GMP Platform. Pricing has finally been released; the cheapest 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 starts at $41,600, or $42,715 after the $1,115 destination fee. Although the MSRP of the Ioniq 6 is more expensive than the Ioniq 5, its destination fee is cheaper, making the Ioniq 6 a nearly infinitesimal $70 lower in price.

Hyundai continues the brand’s roll when it comes to the Ionic lineup of electric vehicles.

It feels like the manufacturer can’t miss when creating an iconic look for each one of Hyundai’s Ioniq vehicles. First the Ioniq 5 came along with cool futuristic hatchback SUV styling. Now there is the sleek Ioniq 6 hatchback that resembles a modern take on a classic European hatchback.

Hyundai refers to the Ioniq 6’s shape as a streamliner design. More than just a stylistic exercise, the slippery shape eludes the air with a drag coefficient of just 0.22. The manufacturer achieves this feat by utilizing a few key elements like active air flaps, wheel gap reducers, an elliptical spoiler with winglet, full underbody cover and more.
