Infiniti Shows More of Its Racing Inspired EV Concept Ahead of Debut
Infiniti has released two more teaser images of its new racing-inspired electric performance concept ahead of its debut in Pebble Beach later this month.
The concept vehicle (name currently unknown) will take after the Prototype 9 Concept Infiniti showed at last year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. While that car appeared to take after a 1950s Grand Prix race car, this new concept looks as though it will take after endurance racers of the same era. The rear tail fin and off center open cockpit are reminiscent of mid-to-late 1950s Le Mans race cars like the Jaguar D-Type and Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. Despite the racing inspiration, Karim Habib, Infiniti’s executive design director, promises the vehicle will provide clues as to where the automaker is heading design wise.

Powering the concept will be an electric powertrain of some sort. The Prototype 9 featured a 148-horsepower electric motor with 236 pound-feet of torque, which was paired with a 30 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. That motor was nearly identical to the one powering the 2018 Nissan Leaf, so perhaps this new concept will feature the upgraded 200+ hp motor Nissan says is coming to the long-range, 60 kWh 2019 Nissan Leaf.
Full details on the concept will become available following its debut at Pebble Beach later this month.

who wants to bet that the finished Nissan EV racer will look like all of the other Formula-E racers to conform to the rules...now that we have that established, move along people, nothing to see here. oh, what's that you say, it's a concept car...a concept car from a brand whose current slogan is "Innovation that Excites", yet they don't really make anything exciting...well then, I think I'll go check out a Mazda6 Sport or Honda Accord Sport, each with a 6spd manual.
