BMW is in a full electrified onslaught that includes the brand’s largest sedan, the 7-Series. The i7 offers all the luxury of the regular 7 Series, but in a unique, all-electric package. Initially, it was available with a dual motor set-up making 536 hp. Now joining the lineup is a rear-wheel drive version called the eDrive50.

The i7 brought in a new design direction for BMW’s more premium vehicles as well.

2024 BMW I7 EDrive50 First Drive Review: One is Enough

The 2024 BMW i7 eDrive50 promises a mix of tradition and cutting-edge.

We’re big fans of the electrified version of the Bavarian limo. The slab-sided sedan has an utterly unique personality in contrast to the default-choice S-Class. Those imposing looks and the fantastic cabin combine for flagship that feels truly modern—almost brutally so.

Those wanting a bit of traditional feel though—simply quick instead of organ-flattening, and with just the one powered axle—should give this new eDrive50 trim a serious look.

2023 BMW i7 First Drive Review

The power doors of the 2023 BMW i7 are a stark demonstration of what luxury truly is.

Not the car’s in-cabin tech, church-like silence, or tremendous amounts of power. The slight delay that comes with opening and closing this flagship sedan is the luxury of time. It’s a high roller feature that’s infuriating those of us driving the car in the mountains south of Palm Springs for work. But it’s also why the car will no doubt be a massive hit with those buyers who have that luxury that only large sums of money can buy.

BMW’s 7 Series is all-new for 2023, and a key part of that is the electric i7. Not a distinct chassis: the i7 shares a platform and everything that comes with it with the 7. And the 7 is a big deal for BMW. Even with the launch of the X7 crossover, this car is clearly still a pinnacle of the brand’s lineup.
