The GLA is Mercedes-Benz’ smallest SUV. The subcompact utility vehicle is the entry point to the brand, so it’s very important for the manufacturer. With decent levels of interior space, the GLA can be had with front- or all-wheel drive.

Like many vehicles in the brand’s portfolio, the GLA can be had as an AMG model. In fact, there are two AMG versions of the SUV. The most potent carries a crazy 382 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 Review: First Drive

It now looks and feels like an SUV.

The 2021 Mercedes GLA looks different. You can’t put your finger on it at first, but a quick glance at the spec-sheet is evidence enough that your intuition was indeed correct. It has grown but not in the way you would expect. The GLA of old was little more than a hopped-up A-Class. To be fair, it was in tune with the times, when any hatch could be called an SUV, so long as it was on stilts. But this 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA, dances to a different tune and looks a lot better doing it.

It is based on the same MFA2 platform as the new GLB and the upgrade becomes more apparent the closer you look at it. The new GLA is far from a revolutionary new offering but the evolution is significant enough for anyone to notice. Plus, as the ever-expanding SUV market grows further, evolution is only natural.

Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 vs Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Comparison

Why would you even consider the GLB over the GLC? For more reasons than you think.

Under normal circumstances, this comparison would make as much sense as comparing tonic soda with a beer. But add a dash of gin to the tonic and you have yourself a debate.

While the GLC is likely the go-to luxury crossover in Mercedes-Benz‘s lineup for new Merc patrons, hence its popularity, the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 presents a potent mix of crossover utility and performance at a similar price point. Not to mention it also offers an extra row of seats; unusable by adults they may be, but they can accommodate kids just fine.

Mazda CX-30 vs Mercedes-Benz GLA Comparison: Lofty Aspirations

Mazda wants into the luxury club. What better way to sneak in than through the sub-compact crossover door?

We’re big fans of the Mazda CX-30 here at AutoGuide. It’s seen off challenges from the volume brands time and again, largely due to a mature drive and one of the classiest interiors under $40,000. But at launch, it lacked the necessary power to really take the fight to the premium competition. Cover charge is at least 220 horsepower at this club.

The CX-30 Turbo has the numbers. So does the second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, here in 250 4MATIC guise. As the newest version of the German big three’s sub-compact offerings, it’s a massive improvement over the previous generation, and the stoutest challenge for Mazda’s crossover yet. Has Mazda truly crafted a vehicle that successfully makes the jump to premium status? We spent a week with both to find out.
