Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision GT is a 1,071-HP Dream Machine

Wild supercar debuts in Gran Turismo 7, and players can get it for free.

Genesis this past weekend took the wraps off the stunning X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo. The slinky supercar debuted at the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Barcelona, where the fastest Gran Turismo 7 players from across the globe raced for glory.

Don't expect the X Gran Berlinetta to roll into Genesis dealerships anytime soon. The Vision Gran Turismo project is a decade-long collaboration between Gran Turismo creator Polyphony Digital and various automakers, coachbuilders, and even clothing/accessory brands. Nonetheless, Genesis did bring along a full-size model for folks in attendance to ogle in person. And what a car it is.

The shape is pure track: long, low, and wide. The smooth bodywork is more reminiscent of '80s-era Group C cars than today's fussy, thousand-winglet designs, however. Up front, Genesis' twin-line motif merges with the Crest Grille for a distinctive look even from far away. It's a look we've seen on models like last year's super-pretty X Convertible. A dramatic cut-away on the long hood accentuates the front spoiler, and Genesis' designers pulled off a similar negative space just aft of the front wheels. Speaking of, the rolling stock is positively enormous and—in typical Genesis fashion—a spindly, pretty design. The two light bars terminate at the small doors, with the whole cabin pushed as far back as possible.

Flowing rear haunches lead into the XGB's coolest feature: a concave spoiler and lateral trailing edges. With the twin-bar taillights sitting behind this oval opening, it's a remix on the brand's usual tail-end treatments that is suitably dramatic for such a machine.

“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” said Genesis senior chief designer John Krsteski. “We have an incredibly diverse global design team that are car and racing enthusiasts.

The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design elements as well as

technical performance attributes. It has become a catalyst of inspiration for our other programs.”

Surprisingly for a brand that plans to be fully electric by 2030, Genesis has stuck to a hybrid powertrain for this virtual racer. A mid-mounted Lambda V6 revs to 10,000 rpm, spitting out 870 horsepower and 790 pound-feet of torque on its own. Genesis' E-SC tech pairs with the gas powerplant, adding 201 hp and 196 lb-ft.

The 2024 Genesis X Gran Berlinetta VGT will arrive in Gran Turismo 7 next month. Players who want it right away—and without spending credits—should tune into the in-game World Finals banner to watch the Manufacturer's Cup broadcast.
