An updated GV80 brings the fight to Mercedes-Benz and BMW’s front yards.

At this year’s New York Auto Show, Genesis stunned the world and unveiled a glamorous coupe version of its GV80 crossover SUV. It clearly was a concept in name only, featuring four racing bucket seats and bright orange paint. Well, the GV80 Coupe is now a production model, and with its introduction, the entire GV80 lineup sees some updates.

Obviously, the rakish coupe roofline of the GV80 Coupe is the biggest story here. From concept to production, very little has changed—the GV80 Coupe adds a low, rakish roofline to the standard GV80. It looks good, too: the GV80 was always a looker, but the coupe body adds even more athleticism to a strong design. The car also gets exclusive 20- and 22-inch wheel options not found on the standard GV80.

The launch of the GV80 Coupe also came with updates to the GV80 SUV as well. Genesis refreshed the front fascia—there’s a new slightly softer grille with a more delicate mesh pattern. Also, the interior lost the traditional gauge cluster shape, replacing it with a swanky 27-inch wide OLED screen that acts as the vehicle’s driver information center and infotainment screen. It’s a slick setup we can’t wait to get our hands on.

The GV80 and GV80 Coupe have the same power options as before: power comes from a 2.5-liter turbo four cylinder, or a 3.5-liter turbo V6. But, the coupe gains the option of a 3.5-liter V6 with an electric supercharger producing 409 horsepower. That powertrain sounds very similar to the top option in the G90 sedan.

Official pricing and availability for the US and Canada market isn’t out yet, but we expect to find out soon before the updated GV80 and GV80 Coupe reaches dealers by early next year.
