Updated Ford F-150 Coming to Detroit Auto Show
An updated Ford F-150 is right around the corner.
The gas-powered Ford F-150 may have had some of its thunder stolen by the all-electric F-150 Lightning, but make no mistake, the gas-powered F-150 is an incredibly important vehicle for Ford. Despite being a somewhat new model, being introduced in 2021, the brand wants to keep the truck current and competitive. CEO Jim Farley announced on Thursday during its second-quarter earnings call that Ford plans to reveal a refreshed F-150 at this year’s Detroit Auto Show.
This will be what’s known as a mid-cycle refresh; which would entail somewhat minor cosmetic and mechanical updates to the vehicle before it’s replaced outright. The next generation Ford F-150 is due in 2026. We expect the F-150 to continue on with its assortment of turbocharged Ecoboost engines, and Powerboost hybrid power.
Ford has increased competition in the full-sized truck space. Toyota’s released an all-new Tundra complete with hybrid power. GM updated both the Sierra and Silverado with new interiors. The RAM 1500 is the oldest competitor on sale, not counting the Nissan Titan. We expect that Stellantis will also update the RAM 1500 very soon, so Ford needs to be ready.
The Detroit Auto Show organizers say that the updated F-150 is one of six new vehicle debuts that GM, Ford, and Stellantis have planned for the show. This year’s Detroit Auto Show will take place from September 13-24, with most new product reveals occurring at the start of, or even before the auto show begins.
