Ford Mustang GT California Special Adds West Coast Style To Icon

Ford adds California flair to the new Mustang.

Maybe it’s just us, but it seems like the latest Mustang has been somewhat light on trims and special editions. But, it looks like Ford is rectifying that with the Ford Mustang GT – California Special, a new take on an old classic package, brought back right on time for the Mustang’s 60th anniversary.

The original California Special package was geared toward California’s optimistic and carefree driving culture. We’re refocusing on those elements for the 2024 Mustang GT California Special, which brings a vibrant style that looks as at home on Colorado Boulevard as it does on the Pacific Coast Highway,” said Mustang brand manager, Joe Bellino.

What does that exactly mean? Well, for starters, it means Rave Blue accents all over the car. Blue accents are in the front nostril grilles and rave blue insets on the optionable 19-inch wheels. All of the badges have Rave Blue accents, including the custom GT/CS badge on the front fascia. Inside, the Mustang switches to Raptor Blue for its contrasting stitching for the dashboard and seats, but there is another Rave Blue California Special placard right on the passenger side of the dashboard.

The California Special can only be had on the Mustang GT Premium trim. It adds $1,995 ($2,595 CAD), to the car’s price, and can be added to both coupes and convertibles and had with either the 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.

It’s groovy, it’s cool, its different, and just might be the ticket to make the Mustang look a bit different compared to the rest of the lineup. Ford says that order banks are open for the GT/CS package.
