We’ve always said the Fiat 124 Abarth would be a lot cooler if it had a hardtop roof, and it looks as though Fiat Chrysler agrees with us.

The European arm of Abarth has just unveiled the new Abarth 124 GT ahead of the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The Abarth 124 GT retains the manually operated soft-top convertible roof, but also comes with an optional lightweight carbon fiber hardtop. Abarth says the top weighs about 35 lbs and improves the torsional rigidity of the sports car. It also improves thermal insulation, helps with soundproofing and can be easily removed.

Other content packed into the Abarth 124 GT includes 17-inch OZ wheels, which are 6.6 lbs lighter than the standard wheels, along with gun metal painted mirror caps and an optional carbon rear spoiler. The 170 hp 1.4-liter turbo engine remains, helping to propel the car from 0-60 mph in 6.8s. The Record Monza dual-mode exhaust is also present, because an Abarth just isn’t an Abarth without a shouty, burbling soundtrack.

We reached out to Fiat Chrysler to find out if the Abarth 124 GT will be headed to North America. Not surprisingly, they told us they can’t comment on any potential future product, but that they’d have something to announce at the upcoming New York Auto Show in March. What could it be?
