Dodge Challenger and Charger to Adopt Maserati Platform
The Dodge Challenger and Charger will move to the Maserati Ghibli’s platform from 2021.
The Challenger and Charger will remain on the aging Chrysler LX platform for a few years longer, with an updated version of the cars due in 2019. The vehicles will then undergo a complete redesign for 2021, at which point they will move to the Ghibli’s platform. The Ghibli is loosely based on the full-size Maserati Quattroporte, sharing aspects of its suspension and steering. It’s not clear how much of the equipment used in the Ghibli will carry over to the Challenger and Charger.

FCA had considered moving the Challenger and Charger to the Giorgio platform currently employed in the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, but those plans have been shelved. The Chrysler 300 was also set for an eventual move to Giorgio, but like the Challenger and Charger, it will remain on LX for a while longer. FCA will work to heavily update LX for the new cars – a platform that is over 15 years old at this point.
Stay tuned for more information on the next-gen Challenger and Charger, along with the updated models due in 2019, as it becomes available.
