Cadillac Wants To Make Three More EVS In 2024
Cadillac has three more EVs coming very soon.
GM and Cadillac have announced their intentions to go all-in on the EV craze. However, aside from the onslaught of planned Chevy EV crossovers, we haven’t heard much for Cadillac, aside from the Lyriq and the handmade, aspirationally ultra-luxury Celestiq. Except now, the brand says that it has three new EVs coming very soon, specifically, by 2024.
Cadillac’s VP, Rory Harvey, won’t confirm which cars, but Automotive News has an idea. Automotive News expects EV versions of the Escalade and Escalade ESV are to be expected soon, along with a small crossover, and medium-sized crossover, both by 2024. Cadillac won’t confirm this, but Harvey did say that the models will be made in “multiple locations,” whatever that means. Whether that means multiple locations in the U.S. or Canada, or a model being made both in North America and China, we won’t know exactly until the day we get more details.
Cadillac wants to transition to an all-electric lineup by 2030. If the brand wants to do that, it’ll need far more EVs to choose from. GM says it ramping up production of the Lyriq crossover, but as of the moment, it is still only available in single-motor, RWD form. So far the brand has only sold a comparative handful of cars; only 122 for all of 2022. Harvey insists that the Lyriq production ramp-up is on schedule, but if Cadillac wants to legitimately challenge Tesla, Ford, or even Genesis, it needs more EVs for consumers to buy, and ASAP.
