Bentley Takes Its Convertible to the 'Ring for Testing
The next-generation Bentley Continental GTC might not look drastically different, but there are some major changes going on.
Both the Continental Coupe and Convertible are riding on a new platform, which was co-developed by Bentley and Porsche. Called the MSB platform, it underpins the new Porsche Panamera, helping shed quite a bit of weight off the sports sedan. That means the new Continental lineup will also be significantly lighter than its predecessor. And instead of having a steel body, the British automaker is using a mix of materials including high-strength steel and aluminum.
Styling is heavily influenced by the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept, but it will carry all of Bentley’s hallmark design elements.

Since it’s riding on a new platform, it’s little surprise Bentley is taking the time to test the new Continental at the Nurburgring. It’s also likely putting the 600-horsepower W12 engine that debuted in the Bentayga through its paces under the hood of the Continental GTC. Expect the standard 4.0-liter V8 engine to also get an update for the new model.
While a diesel engine is unlikely given Volkswagen’s massive scandal, a plug-in hybrid borrowed from the Porsche Cayenne is expected to join the lineup.
Look for more details on the new Bentley Continental lineup to come soon, since it is expected to launch this year.
