The Bentley Bentayga will gain a V8 engine option in 2018, according to a recent report from Germany’s Auto Motor Und Sport.

The Bentayga was introduced for the 2016 model year and is currently only offered with one engine: a 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 making 600 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. The V8 powertrain will be added to the lineup next year and will likely consist of VW Group’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine and an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The engine also appears in the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Lamborghini Urus, where it makes 550 hp and 650 hp, respectively.

Earlier this year it was reported the Bentayga would also receive a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the 2018 model year. It should consist of a supercharged 2.9-liter V6 engine and electric motor – the same setup that appears in the Cayenne S E-Hybrid. An Autocar report indicated the plug-in system would make more than the 416 hp it makes in the Porsche however, which is fitting considering the Bentayga’s price premium over the Cayenne. The plug-in model will also have an estimated all-electric range of at least 14 miles.

We’ll be looking for the 2018 Bentley Bentayga V8 to make its debut sometime in early 2018 – perhaps in Detroit next month or at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
