Another Crazy Jaguar Project is Coming

The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is aiming to be the world’s fastest road-going sedan, will Project 9 be an SUV?

Speaking to Top Gear, the head of Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), John Edwards, confirmed “there will be a Project 9.” Unfortunately, the company hasn’t decided what it will be just yet, but Edwards did say it may not necessarily be a high-performance vehicle, adding that the company is making up the rules as they go along.

Recently, Jaguar announced engineering fine-tuning of the XE SV Project 8 is almost finished, ahead of production starting in June. Since its debut last year at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed, SVO has given the Project 8 numerous enhancements so that it remains the “fastest and most thrilling of all road-legal four-door sedans.” With a top speed of 200 mph and zero-to-60 time of 3.4 seconds, the XE SV Project 8 has already set a new four-door production-intent sedan record at the Nurburgring with a lap of 7:21.23.

The XE SV Project 8 is powered by a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine with 592 horsepower, making it the most powerful Jaguar road car to date. It will be limited to 300 units and is priced from $188,495 in the U.S. Recent upgrades to the car include stiffer suspension and engine mounts, while there are all-new suspension arm bushings. SVO has also tweaked the brakes for better feel and performance, while a software update improves the Project 8’s performance, feel, responsive, and refinement, said the company.

But now that Edwards has confirmed a Project 9 will eventually come, we’re sure enthusiasts are trying to guess what SVO has up its sleeves next. Don’t be shocked if SVO turns its attention to one of Jaguar’s SUVs, especially since Edwards hinted that it won’t necessarily be about high performance.
