500 HP Infiniti Q60 Black S May Reach Production by 2020

A production-ready version of the 500 hp Infiniti Q60 Black S will see the light of day this year before potentially going on sale in 2020, according to a new report.

Australian auto site CarAdvice.com.au published a report today indicating the Infiniti Q60 Black S Concept from the 2017 Geneva Motor Show could go into production for 2020. The concept featured a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine paired with an F1-inspired hybrid system, which can recapture energy under braking that can then deployed as a performance boost. It had an estimated output of around 500 hp, and also received sportier front and rear fascias, different wheels, Pirelli Color Series tires and a large rear wing.

Tommaso Volpe, Infiniti’s director of product strategy and motorsport, told CarAdvice last week that a prototype for the car has been finalized and that components are set to begin arriving from suppliers over the next few weeks. And while not greenlit by company bosses for production just yet, it sounds as though they are taking a serious look at bringing the F1-inspired performance coupe to market. It would make sense – after all, Infiniti’s logo appears on the 2018 Renault F1 car, so it should have an F1-inspired product to offer performance-minded buyers.

Volpe also told CarAdvice “it’s vital that whatever (Infiniti does) in F1 applies to the road business,” potentially alluding to the production version of the Black S, or other F1-inspired hybrid road cars.

The production-ready Infiniti Q60 Black S could debut as early as the 2018 Paris Motor Show this fall, so keep an eye out for more information on this interesting performance coupe as it becomes available. Perhaps Infiniti will even have more information to share with us at the 2018 New York auto show this week.
