2024 Toyota Corolla Brings Back the Nightshade, Now On Hybrid Too
Based on the SE grade, the popular trim returns for the sedan, hatchback, and hybrid Corolla models.
Toyota on Tuesday announced the return of the Corolla Nightshade Edition for 2024. The model remains an affordable style-focused option in the Corolla family, and this time it will also be available with the hybrid.

The former comes in the form of a gloss-black front grille, blacked out Toyota badges, black (heated) side mirrors, rear spoiler, and diffuser. The hatchback also gets a larger rear wing and two-tone roof—no prizes for guessing which color both are. Sweet bronze 18-inch split-seven-spoke wheels round out the look.
Toyota will stick to a monochrome exterior color trio for the Corolla Nightshade. All models get the choice of Midnight Black or Classic Silver metallics; the sedan and hybrid offer Ice Cap (white), while the hatch comes in Windchill Pearl (other white).
Inside, the Nightshade nets the SE’s sport seats with fabric inserts. Analog dials sandwich a 4.2-inch multi-information display, with an 8.0-inch touchscreen running Toyota Audio Multimedia as standard. Other standard kit includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which bundles full-range adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, lane-keep assist, auto high beams, traffic sign recognition, and Toyota’s Proactive Driving Assist.

The options list stays small, consisting of a JBL Premium Audio upgrade, and the SE Premium Package. The latter bundles a power moonroof with wireless charger, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Buyers opting for the Corolla Nightshade will get the choice of either the 2.0-liter inline-four engine for the sedan, or the 1.8-liter hybrid setup in the, er, Hybrid. The 2.0-liter sends 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front wheels. The transmission continues to use a novel fixed first-gear setup, which allows for smoother starts, yet still retains a 34-mpg combined rating (35 mpg for the hatchback). The hybrid is available in both front- and all-wheel drive configurations, and capable of hitting 47 mpg.
The 2024 Toyota Corolla Nightshade will begin arriving on dealer floors this autumn. While we don’t know pricing for it yet—or in fact the entire 2024 Corolla lineup—we expect the Nightshade be around $700 or $800 more than the Corolla SE it’s based on, judging by the 2022 pricing structure.
