2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X And Extreme AEV Add Off-Road Cred To Its Heavy-Duty Trucks
GMC’s heavy-duty trucks just got a big dose of off-road cred.
You can have your cake and eat it too, I guess. Unlike Ford’s Raptor line of trucks which is limited to the half-ton and compact-sized trucks and SUVs, GMC is doing things a bit differently. Now officially revealed, the latest GMC Sierra HD lineup just had a fresh injection of off-road gruff and capability in the form of the AT4X and Extreme AEV editions.
Similar to the Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2, the Sierra HD AT4X gains a 1.5-inch lift, electronic locking rear differential, 35-inch Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires, and Multimatic DSSV shocks. It’s got chunky skid plates to protect those trick differentials, allowing the heavy-duty behemoth to traverse the nasty stuff with confidence you won’t ruin the car mechanically.
Power comes from one of two engines, both 6.6 liters in size. The gas 6.6-liter produces 401 horsepower and 464 ft-lbs of torque. However, the real star of the show is arguably the Duramax diesel. This turbocharged unit produces 470 horsepower and a staggering 975 ft-lbs of torque. It’ll let the truck tow up to 18,500 lbs.
The Extreme AEV edition is GMC letting outfitter American Expedition Vehicles work its magic on the truck. It gains unique 18-inch Salta wheels, stamped steel bumpers with integrated tow recovery points, and unique AEV badging inside and out.
Pricing of the trucks hasn’t been announced yet, but the trucks are expected to reach dealerships by Fall 2023. We’ll know pricing closer to the truck’s actual launch, but expect these high-tech heavy-duty off-road beasts to command a pretty penny.
