The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS appears to be the real deal.

It’s an upcoming entry in the booming all-electric performance SUV market. Virtually non-existent five years ago, it seems every manufacturer is keen to have a player in this market space. While some brands are happy to just stuff oodles of horsepower into an existing model, Chevrolet is taking a more holistic approach. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS’ intention is to be the whole package. More than just a one-trick pony.

To achieve this, Chevy’s engineers pointed out to us a few key areas of the vehicle’s development while we were at the North American International Auto Show. Here now are 5 cool facts about this performance all-electric SUV.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS Long Wheelbase

One look at the profile of the Blazer EV and it’s easy to see it has a long wheelbase. A really, really long wheelbase. Measuring in at 121.8 inches (3,094 mm) in length, it’s longer than the wheelbase found in the Chevrolet Tahoe. The main reason for the much smaller Blazer EV’s long wheelbase is packaging. It allows the vehicle to have a battery pack large enough for the Blazer EV RS to travel upwards of 320 miles on a single charge. It also enables the high performance SS model to go 290 miles before needing a refill of electricity.

A side benefit of stretching the wheels out to all four corners of a vehicle is handling. With minimal weight hanging over the front or rear of the car, body motions are better controlled. It gives the driver more confidence during spirited driving maneuvers.

Front, Rear, or All?

A lot of vehicles can be had with a combination of front-wheel, all-wheel, or rear-wheel drive. But very few allow for all three. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is one of those rare vehicles. The entry level 1LT trim comes with a single motor that drives the front wheels. It can travel up to 247 miles on a single charge. The 2LT gets a larger battery and the choice of a single-motor front wheel drive set-up or a dual motor all-wheel drive configuration. With front-wheel drive, the 2LT can travel 293 miles on a charge.

The RS bucks the trend and goes with an even larger battery and more powerful motor that only powers the rear wheels. It’s intended for areas that don’t experience messy winters and should deliver the previously mentioned 320 miles on a single charge. At the top of the performance hierarchy is the Blazer EV SS that uses all-wheel drive exclusively to deliver the most power to the pavement.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS WOW Mode

No, WOW mode does not refer to an online computer game. WOW stands for Wide Open Watts. Available only on the SS trim of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, it enables the delivery of 557 hp and 648 lb-ft. of torque to all four wheels without hesitation. Chevy claims this is good for a 0 to 60 mph time under four seconds. So, if you want to quietly drag race that C8 Corvette with entire family on board, this might just be the ride to do it in.

Serious Performance Parts

Going incredibly fast is fun and all, but eventually a vehicle will need to turn or stop. The Blazer EV SS comes standard with a set of Brembo brakes to ensure it can scrub off all that speed acquired after WOW was deployed.

It also comes standard with 22-inch wheels. The prototype vehicle on hand at the North American International Auto Show was wearing Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus high performance all-season tires. But if a bit more grip is wanted, the Blazer EV SS will feature an available summer tire package at launch. What rubber exactly will be equipped we are not sure of at this time.

Screens for Days

All of this performance is fun and all, but what’s the point if one can’t see it happening in real time? Standard on the Blazer EV SS is a 17.7-inch infotainment screen accompanied by an 11-inch driver information center. They are both highly configurable so all sorts of information can be displayed, including key items like performance and range.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV will go on sale in the summer of 2023. Expect to see the SS model arriving sometime later that year with an asking price starting around $65,995.

I like it a lot. The Equinox looks just like the all the other EVs in it's class - bland. IMO

I like I and it will go into my garage after sliding down a steep driveway. It will clear. Front driver SEAT is much more comfortable than the Tesla Ys bare bones seat. It also is not a huge hippo of a car. I hate driving elephant cars!!! It is smaller and drives like a a bat out of hell. I like the wheels since they are balanced, not off center. Goes over 300 miles and charges quickly for an electric car. I dont ever get tickets by Police since I follow the speed limits, no reason to fly fast but it does! It works for me! The other cars out there do not even compare to my needs!
