2023 autoguide com awards meet the finalists

We’re picking the best of the best: these are the 16 models that most impressed AutoGuide this year.

Thousands of miles and hundreds of cars later, we’ve narrowed down the finalists for the 2023 AutoGuide Awards. The awards celebrate the best new cars, trucks, and utility vehicles on sale today, as chosen by our team of in-house and contributing road testers.

This year, we’ve streamlined the categories, but the goal remains the same: provide car shoppers, like you dear reader, with the knowledge to make the best purchase for your particular needs. Every new or significantly updated vehicle we drove in 2022 was eligible. That also means anything we didn’t get to drive was ineligible; sorry, Honda Civic Type R.

It isn’t enough for a car to simply satisfy: to earn a spot on this shortlist, these vehicles went above and beyond. From the dramatically restyled Toyota Prius to the ultra-luxurious, all-electric Lucid Air, every one of our finalists nails their respective briefs. Don’t forget a healthy dose of desirability too—even with the industry’s current production challenges, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend any of these to our own families and friends.

The categories this year include our usual Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year, all limited to a maximum of five finalists. We acknowledge and embrace the industry’s move to electric too, so what was once our Green Vehicle of the Year now becomes the Electric Vehicle of the Year award. Three of the EV finalists also appear in the other categories too: a sign that they stand fender-to-fender with the best in their respective classes.

We’ll be announcing the winners in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. Read on for the full list of candidates:
